About
Hi, I'm Darragh, a Dubliner born and raised.
When I lived in the US, friends often asked me for suggestions about Dublin. I searched travel blogs to share with them, but found the guides were written by people who really didn't know Dublin. The writers were first time visitors to Ireland themselves, going to the same famous tourist sites that they had read about. Then blogging about them and the cycle continued.
Why I Started This Site
There's nothing wrong with coming to Dublin and following the well worn Guinness, Jameson, Book of Kells, Temple Bar, Cobblestone & Brazen Head path, but you're not going to see Dublin. You'll just buy tickets to manufactured tourist experiences run by corporations, see touristy Dublin and meet other tourists.
That's just not what I do when I visit a new place.
Frustrated by this, I wrote a guide to Dublin for my friends. One that would show them my Dublin, real Dublin, where they would visit local villages, parks and markets. Walk along the best sights and views in Dublin. Meet Irish people. Enjoy Guinness in its natural environment of a local pub, not caged in a tourist attraction.
Now Sharing the Best of Ireland
My little Dublin guide proved very popular and outranks the giants Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet on Google. I started get emails from people thanking me for showing them real Dublin.
The success of my Dublin guide has encouraged me to start Ireland By Locals. I'll be sharing the same local knowledge for all of Ireland now.
